Unmedicated and Unfiltered

Let’s talk about the absolute racket that is mental health medication in this country.

Thank you for reading this post, don’t forget to subscribe!

We are constantly told to “reach out for help” and “prioritize our mental health.” But what they don’t mention in those glossy awareness campaigns is the price tag. Pharmaceuticals for mental health are insanely, offensively priced. And trying to find an insurance plan that doesn’t cost a second mortgage and actually covers the specific meds you need to function? It feels damn near impossible. It’s a rigged game where the prize is just being able to wake up and feel okay.

And then, the worst-case scenario happens: you run out.

Maybe the insurance company threw up a roadblock, maybe the pharmacy is out of stock, or maybe the price just became unpayable this month. Whatever the reason, suddenly you’re cut off.

And holy shit, the storm that follows.

The Withdrawal Storm

When the meds leave your system, it’s not just a bad mood—it’s an absolute psychological and physical demolition derby.

  • The Rage & Self-Destruction: The anger comes out of nowhere, sharp and blinding. Your brain turns on you, whispering every self-destructive thought it can find just to cope with the sudden chemical deficit.

  • The Physical Toll: You feel physically drunk—dizzy, disconnected, and stumbling through a fog.

  • Akathisia: If you’ve never experienced akathisia, count yourself lucky. It is a special kind of hell. It’s a profound, unbearable inner restlessness where your muscles feel like they are vibrating and you quite literally cannot sit still or find peace in your own skin. It is awful. It’s exhausting.

Still Kicking Ass

It is a deeply unfair, broken system that forces people to fight this hard just to achieve a baseline of sanity. Nobody should have to experience a chemical crisis because of a price tag.

But despite the brain fog, the rage, the shakes, and the absolute financial absurdity of it all… I’m still here.

It’s ugly right now, and it hurts, but I am still alive. And every single day I wake up and face this madness, I am kicking its ass. They can price the meds out of reach, but they haven’t broken me yet.
