Behind the Scenes: The “Send” Button

If you’ve been following along, you know I enjoy talking about finding magic in the mental mess, but today, I want to talk about the mess behind the scenes of this blog.People often ask me, “How do you do it? How do you write about the hard stuff, go to school, and manage the chaos?” The truth? Most of the time, I’m just trying to figure out which end is up.
But this week, I did something scary.
I took a piece of my story—a piece that feels very personal—and I sent it off to OC87 Recovery Diaries. For those who don’t know, OC87 is a community that focuses on mental health recovery. Sending them my work felt like pulling back the curtain on my own process. It wasn’t about “getting famous.” It was about taking a tiny, terrifying step toward turning my mess into something that might help someone else—or at least distract them from their own. Hitting that “send” button felt like the digital version of jumping off a cliff, but with significantly more anxiety and a lot more caffeine involved.
Whether they accept it or not, the act of putting it out there has already changed something for me. It’s shifted my mindset from “I am a patient” to “I am a writer who has a story to tell.” And honestly, if I can survive brain surgery, I think I can survive an editorial rejection (or two). I wanted to share this because I know a lot of you are sitting on your own stories, waiting for the “right time” or the “right feeling” to move forward.
If you’re waiting for the fear to go away, you’ll be waiting until I manage to keep my house perfectly clean for a full week—which, let’s be real, is never going to happen. Sometimes, you just have to hit “send” and see what happens. I’ll keep you all posted on whether they pick it up. In the meantime, thank you for being the safe harbor where I can dump the Kortex and find the magic.
